The tagline for Church Women United is “A racially culturally theologically inclusive ecumenical women’s movement.”
Church Women United sponsors three gatherings each year. The first Friday of November is “World Community Day.” Today I spoke for the CWU gathering in Frederick, MD. There were more than 35 women in attendance, representing at least a dozen churches. The topic was “Our Journey Together” and the scripture was Isaiah 2:1-4, a vision of peace. What a joy to be part of this inspiring group!
The CWU chapter in Frederick County, MD is especially active in ministry to the women of the Detention Center and the Children of Incarcerated Parents Partnership. They walk with the Detention Center CROP Walk and sponsor walkers, make cookies for inmates, raise funds for Christmas gifts for the women, share in their Christmas experience and create ways to involve these women in service projects. They also sponsor parenting classes, offering skills and ideas to create a better future for their children.
