Friday Five

I’m part of a blogring called the “RevGalBlogPals.” They are a very special bunch of people. Every Friday someone posts 5 questions designed to help us pause for a moment and reflect. It’s fun to read other people’s answers. Here is today’s Friday’s Five, which was posted by revkjarla:

Advent blessings to you!
Our Friday Five today is taken from a small lucite box of questions called “Table Topics” that someone gave me.   They are supposed to be discussion starters at all of the dinner parties one gives.   I think some of them are fun, so here they are:

1. In what era would you most like to have grown up, and what would be your occupation?

I’m glad I live right now. As fun as it is to think about being a pioneer, or perhaps a patron of the arts during the Renaissance, I really can’t think of a better time for a woman to be alive. And yes, I would want to be a woman! In another time my poor eyesight would be made worse by cook-smoke I’m sure, and I’d be mostly blind!

2. What fashion trend you followed was very cool then but now looks ridiculous?

In Junior High I had a pair of psychedelic bell-bottoms that were the bomb! They were swirls of red, white and navy, and sat low on my hips (“low” in the sense of the seventies. Today they would be considered “mid-rise.”) Best of all, I wore them with a rope belt that I macrame-ed myself! The fringes swung all around my body.

3.  If you could work as an assistant to anyone for a year who would you choose?

Hmm, tough call here. Should I say Michelle Obama? Hillary Clinton? Oprah Winfrey? Or just throw out the career thoughts and say: Bono or George Clooney? Wait, I’ve got it. No doubt now: Steven Colbert. Yep, that’s it.

4. What did you get in most trouble for when you were young?

Oh, I was un-redeemably good. A goodie two-shoes. The worst of my trouble-making was for reading a book when I should have been setting the dinner table. Criminy.

5.  What are the redeeming qualities of the person you most dislike?

In his own mind, he is righteous and God-fearing.

omgoodness. Macrame. I made a macrame owl and planter in Home Ec. When did it get popular again? Oh my.

    Stephen Colbert! Yes!

  2. Marci Glass says:

Colbert! Great idea. That would be fun. And he would appreciate the bell bottoms!

  3. Julie says:

I miss bell-bottoms. And I too love Stephen Colbert. Peace to you!

great play! I’m glad to be a woman, too, and how wonderful you made your own macrame belt… I have a couple of those I got quite recently. Happy Advent back at ya!

the fact that macrame is popular again is proof that the writer of Ecclesiastes is right: There is nothing new under the sun!
