This was written by my dad, Nick Huizenga, and I needn’t say anymore in the way of introduction because he takes care of that in the post. His original title was “Being Facetious,” so be forewarned. Welcome to the blogosphere, Dad!
Dear Friend,
I wish to share with you some specific political views about which I feel rather strongly.
However, before I do so, I feel that I should tell you a little about myself. I was a child during the Great Depression, one of eight children. We were so poor that we received food relief from the government, and my father for a time worked for the Works Progress Administration, a governmental agency that provided jobs to poor heads of households. During my youth our family was quaranteed at two different times: once for measles and once for small pox.
I served briefly in the army, after which I went to college on the GI Bill of Rights. I also received a low-interest loan for a house in Roseland because I was a veteran.
Because I was a veteran, today I receive low lost prescription drugs and free medical care, including free glasses and a free hearing aid. As a senior citizen, I receive medicare.
Well, enough about myself; on to my strongly held political views.
I think there is great sense to what President Reagan said, that a government governs best that governs least. Reagan made some sense when he said that the government is often not the solution, but the problem.
Now our President and Congress are trying to expand its involvement in our health care system. Some of my friends talk about the government “take-over.”
I ask you to write our congressman and tell them that the government should stay out of health care.
Some fear that the government may try to get jobs for people and try to increase medical care for those who don’t need it. Well, I am not looking for a job (I get social security), and I don’t need more health care for myself.
So I say, “Bug off, OBama.”
